The Zambia Police Service has warned members of the public against believing false and misleading information circulating on social media, particularly from a Facebook page identified as “The Candidates.”
In a press statement issued on May 26, 2026, the police said the publication falsely attributed statements to Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba concerning Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu.
According to the Zambia Police Service, the circulating information is fake and intended to mislead the public while dragging the police service into political matters.
Police expressed concern that this is now the third incident in recent weeks involving false, defamatory, and misleading publications targeting both the Inspector General and the Zambia Police Service.
“The publications are intended to mislead the public and drag the Zambia Police Service into politics,” the statement read.
The police have since advised members of the public to ignore the publication and avoid sharing unverified information from unofficial social media platforms.
Authorities further urged citizens to rely on verified communication channels and official police statements for accurate information.
The statement was issued by Godfrey Chilabi, Public Relations Officer for the Zambia Police Service.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Zambia ahead of the 2026 general elections, with concerns growing over misinformation and fake news circulating online.
The Zambia Police Service has repeatedly warned against the spread of false information, stating that misinformation has the potential to create public panic, confusion, and unnecessary political tension.
