Zambia Projects Load Shedding Relief by 2026 with New Power Sources
By Patricia Banda
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote says load shedding is expected to stabilize by 2026, thanks to the integration of three major power sources into the national electricity grid.
Responding to a question from Acting Chairperson of the Committee on Energy, Water Development and Tourism, Nkana MP Binwell Mpundu, Mr. Chikote made the remarks while presenting the 2026 Ministerial Budget Policy Statement.
He identified the new sources as:
300 megawatts from Maamba Energy Limited, an independent power producer
400 megawatts from Ezra Energy Limited, a hybrid coal and solar plant in Siavonga
Additional capacity from renewable energy sources
Mr. Chikote also revealed that the government has reduced power exports to Namibia from 180 megawatts to 50 megawatts, as part of efforts to prioritize domestic energy needs.
