Zambia has recieved annual funding to implement community projects in Mwachiyaba and Shakulya villages in Kafue District and Nanduba and Nansenga villages in Chikankata District, under the South Korean, ‘Saemaul Undong‘ project.
Over $70,000 has been secured to facilitate this year’s implementation of community led projects in four villages respectively.
Zambia which is now a member of Saemaul Global League (SGL), was this year selected to implement the Saemaul Undong project from 2023 to 2027 in 4 villages in Kafue and Chikankata District, under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
This came to light during the 2023 Global Saemaul Undong Leadership Forum,held on 2nd November 2023 in Seoul, under the theme: “Again Saemaul Undong, To the World and beyond”.
His Excellency the Ambassador, Mr. Andrew Banda, and Ms.Musonda Chisanga, the project Cordinator, were among over 300 guests that attended this year’s Saemaul Undong Global leadership Forum which is the event’s tenth annual gathering since it started in 2014.
Dr. Patrick Siame, Lecturer from the University of Zambia, and Mr. Kasapo Chibesa, the best performing Community Leader from the Mwachiyaba village in Kafue District, were also in attendance at the event that encourage global leaders and Government officials to share best practices and discuss regional development policies.
The event also facilitates for the study of global strategies for the shared prosperity of villages around the world as well as the international expansion and network development of Saemaul Undong, while providing a unique opportunity for countries to learn from each other as well as their Korean mentors.
South Korea has since made considerable progress in getting other countries to adopt the Saemaul Undong model.

In addressing the Saemaul Global league members, the President of the Korea Saemaul Undong Centre reminded the members that Saemaul Undong is a community driven development program based on demand and enabled through the active engagement of the communities, giving them confidence and a can – do spirit.
