By Francis Chipalo

The Zambian High Commission in South Africa has continued its engagement with regional partners to advance Zambia’s infrastructure development and enhance its economic diplomacy agenda through investments.

Speaking during an investment discussion with Commuter Transport Engineering (CTE) of South Africa, Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Grace Mutembo, said Zambia is prioritizing infrastructure development to enhance trade facilitation, promote industrialization, and regional connectivity.

“Zambia is no longer landlocked but land-linked to more than ten countries with a combined market of over 500 million people, Our goal is to leverage this strategic position by improving key transport corridors such as the Lobito, TAZARA, and Nacala lines to strengthen regional trade and industrial cooperation.” Mutembo said.

Meanwhile, Paul Barasa, Engineering Manager at CTE, outlined the company’s interest in partnering with Zambia in the refurbishment of locomotives, component manufacturing, and skills training, emphasizing the firm’s commitment to sustainable industrial partnerships.

“We view Zambia as a strategic partner for long-term growth, our focus is on collaboration that supports skills and infrastructure development, manufacturing, and refurbishment of rolling stock.”

He said infrastructure development is key in Zambia’s industrial transformation and regional connectivity.

The meeting highlighted Zambia’s commitment to work with regional partners to grow its infrastructure and boost trade.

It offered a chance to explore cooperation with South Africa’s Commuter Transport Engineering (CTE) in areas such as locomotive repair, manufacturing, and skills training.

Deputy High Commissioner Ruth Dante and First Secretary Trade Mainga also attended the meeting, which aimed to strengthen investment and support Zambia’s economic growth.

This is contained in a statement issued by Alexander Musokotwane, First Secretary (Press and Public Relations) at the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa.
