Golden Girls fly home: Zambia Women’s Hockey team heading back from Oman after World Cup
By Patson Kawewe
Zambia’s defeated-but-defiant Golden Girls are flying back to Zambia from Oman after their heartbreaking poor performance at the 2024 Women’s World Cup.
The players are now on a plane which will stop off at Dubai then make another stop off at Kenya before landing at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka tomorrow morning at 09:05 Hrs.
The Golden Girls of Zambia were among the first 16 countries to have qualified for the Inaugural Hockey 5s World Cup and were expected to pull off some good results but fail short after losing five consecutive matches before clinching a victory over hosts Oman to settle for a 15th position.
The team will return home without Carolina Nakombe who has since joined Italian second tier league ASD Galatea on a 6 months loan deal from Lusaka Tigers with a possible extension.
