A 58 year old woman of Lufwanyama has been raped by her son in-law after she attempted to rescue her daughter from the beatings of her husband.
Pathias Ngwata, 33, of Mukutuma area is in police custody after he was caught red-handed raping his mother in-law.
The victim suffered bruises on her private parts, swollen upper lip, bruises on the lips, neck and forehead and painful left eye.
According to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, the victim heard her daughter crying and shouting for help and when she went to check she found her daughter being beaten by her husband.
Mr Mweemba said after a while the victim’s daughter managed to escape by running out of the house.
He said while she was out she heard her mother calling for help.
Mr Mweemba said when rushed in the house to rescue her mother she found her husband having carnal knowledge of her.
“On July 6, 2023 around 20:00 hours the victim heard her crying and shouting for help and she went to check on what was happening and she found her daughter being beaten by her husband. She then rescued her daughter and she ran outside the house while she remained in the house. The accused then started beating her and had carnal knowledge of her. She shouted for help and her daughter who she rescued earlier rushed into the house and found her husband in the act with her mother,” he said.
He said Mr Ngwata is in detention.
