A 31-year-old man of Mpika district has been arrested for allegedly defiling his girlfriend’s six-year-old daughter after she refused to engage in sexual intercourse with him.
Worry Pandeko, of Tazama Township, was arrested on Saturday around 22:00 hours after he allegedly defiled the victim last month.
Muchinga Province police commanding officer Paul Achiume said the girl was defiled on February 24 around 22:00 hours.
Mr Achiume said the girl’s biological father visited the woman’s house on the fateful day and was offered to sleep in the bedroom.
He said this prompted the victim’s mother and her boyfriend to sleep in the living room while the victim slept in the mother’s bedroom.
“The suspect demanded for sex in the middle of the night from his girlfriend, who declined and fell asleep,” Mr Achiume said.
He said the suspect, however, woke up and went to the room where the victim was sleeping and allegedly defiled her.
Mr Achiume said the suspect is in police custody and will soon appear in court.
