A Zambian national, Rees Mwasambili, has assumed duties as the Country Manager for the African Development Bank Group in Liberia.
He presented his Letter of Credence to Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, during an official ceremony in Monrovia on 10 February 2026.
The Minister warmly welcomed Mwasambili and highlighted the longstanding partnership between Liberia and the African Development Bank Group.
She praised the Bank’s contributions to infrastructure, agriculture, governance, and skills development, especially for youth and women.
Minister Nyanti emphasised the need for enhanced skills development to drive Liberia’s inclusive economic growth.
She reaffirmed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Bank under its President, Sidi Ould Tah.
In response, Mwasambili pledged the Bank’s continued support for Liberia’s development aspirations.
He noted Liberia’s role as a founding member of the Bank in 1964, marking over 60 years of flourishing relations.
The Bank’s new Country Strategy Paper for 2026-2031 aligns with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda, focusing on infrastructure, skills, and private sector competitiveness.
The Bank has committed over $1 billion to 72 projects in Liberia over six decades, with a current active portfolio of $397 million.
