ZAMBIAN PEACE SCIENTIST WARNS US UN EXIT THREATENS GLOBAL PEACE

Tom Njobvu

Peace and Conflict Resolution Scientist Tom Njovu says the possible withdrawal of the United States of America from the United Nations would impact global stability.

He explains that the UN was created to prevent war, promote cooperation, and support development worldwide.

Njovu notes that the US is both a founding member and the largest financial contributor to the UN, supporting key programmes in peacekeeping, health, education, and humanitarian aid.

He warns that many developing countries, especially in Africa, South America, and Asia, depend on these services.

The Scientist said without US support, poorer nations would face the greatest burden.

Njovu adds that the UN provides a vital platform for diplomacy and addressing global challenges like climate change, pandemics, and conflict.

He believes the US would also suffer from isolation and reduced global influence if it disengages.

The Scientist said such a move will create an opportunity for rival superpowers to fill the leadership gap, thereby weakening the US moral authority and reducing its diplomatic influence.

Njovu urges other member states to take greater responsibility in sustaining the UN by honouring their financial obligations and strengthening multilateral cooperation,

He emphasises that global problems require unity, and the UN remains the best hope for the world’s peace and cooperation.
