A polygamist of Mpongwe district on the Copperbelt has allegedly been assassinated in what is suspected to be a witch-hunt by his relatives.
Clever Ng’andu, 37, is reported to have been a topic of discussion by his family members who accused him of being a wizard.
The victim was allegedly accused by his uncle and a cousin of having bewitched his nephew, who was the son of his cousin. It is believed Mr Ng’andu’s family members plotted his killing by hiring assassins, locally known as karavinas, who shot him dead on Sunday around 22:00 hours.
Mr Mweemba said the incident was reported by Mr Ng’andu’s uncle, Payford Mukanka. He reported via phone call that the victim was shot dead in the head by unknown people.
Mr Mweemba said facts surrounding the matter are that on Sunday, around 21:00 hours, the victim, who was married to two women, retired to bed. He said around 22:00 hours, the victim and his first wife heard dogs barking.
“Later, he and his wife, Gloria Ng’andu, aged 33 years, went outside to check why the dogs were barking. The wife went the opposite direction of the house and the husband also went the other direction. Whilst checking, the wife heard a gunshot from the direction where the husband had gone,” Mr Mweemba said.
He said the senior wife found her husband lying in a pool of blood and called for help.
