April 26, 2024 – Police in Samfya, Luapula Province, have arrested a 34-year-old teacher for defilement involving a 15-year-old grade 11 pupil.
Police investigations revealed that a teacher, only identified as Sinyangwe, had canal knowledge of a named pupil on April 18, 2024 around 16:30 hours.
Brief facts surrounding the matter are that Mr. Sinyangwe, while acting as School Head Teacher, called the pupil to his office and instructed her to go and clean the Head teacher’s house who was out of town.
The pupil rushed to the house while Mr. Sinyangwe remained in his office. It is alleged that he later followed to the house where he found her sweeping in the living room. While inside the house, Mr. Sinyangwe is alleged to have pushed the pupil onto the sofa and forcibly had canal knowledge of her.
After the act, the suspect is alleged to have warned the victim not to tell anyone or she risked being expelled from school.
The victim only revealed the incident to her aunty the following day and immediately the matter was reported to Police.
The victim was issued with a medical report form in order for her to seek medical attention and the medical findings came out positive as alleged.
Police picked the suspect from the same school today around 10:30 hours and detained him in custody waiting to be formally charged.
