A 16-year-old boy of Sakwi Village under Chief Zingalume has appeared before Chadiza Magistrates Court for theft of various items including a pot, beans, groundnuts and a bowl of inswa, the flying termites that come with the rainy season.
It is alleged that the teenager on December 17 last year did break into a house where he stole property belonging to Aliness Mbewe, 41, of the same village.
At the time of the theft, Mbewe had gone to her field early in the morning only to find the door to her two-room house wide open on her return.

After checking around, she further discovered that a lot of things were missing including K200 cash which was hidden under a mattress, a pot, 5kg packet of beans, packet of groundnuts and a bowl of inswa. “I quickly realised that my house was broken into,” she explained.
Afterwards, Mbewe went to a famous drinking place, where she found the teen with some of the beans which were identified to be hers.
She alerted a neighbourhood watch member, who later apprehended the teen before taking him to Chadiza Police Station.
Mbewe managed to recover K40 from the teen from the items stolen, which were valued at K800. The case continues on Friday.
