Zambians warned against re-electing UPND in 2026 over mining sector concerns

Democratic Union president, Ackim Antony Njobvu is warning Zambians against re-electing the UPND government in 2026, citing concerns over the country’s mining sector.

Njobvu argues that despite government claims of improvement, the sector remains in a poor state, with most revenue going to foreign investors due to unfavorable “bad” contracts.

The UPND government has previously stated that it is working to boost local participation in the mining industry and reviewing tax policies to attract sustained investment.

But Njobvu has criticized government’s handling of Zambia’s mining sector, saying the country isn’t benefiting from its resources due to bad contracts with foreign investors.

He argues that pronouncements made have not benefited the Zambian people.

“When you talk about investment in the mining sector, it must translate to benefit the citizens’, he said.

Meanwhile, Njobvu said electing back President Hakainde Hichilema would be the biggest mistake people will make in 2026.

Njobvu says the country requires a radical change of leadership, driven by young people.

Njobvu observes that current challenges being faced in the country requires innovating minds, saying it is the time for the country’s youth to take a leading role.

He was speaking during an interview on Millennium Radio.
