THE Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) has announced plans to regulate all social media content creators involved in marketing products or services, saying these will be required to register with the institute.
This comes as the profession continues to grow rapidly and is now considered part of Zambia’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector.
Speaking to journalists shortly after meeting advertising agencies in Lusaka yesterday, registrar and CEO Danny Chanda said: “Social media content creators are increasingly becoming a significant part of the marketing landscape.
Any individual using digital platforms to promote products or services is essentially running a business and will therefore be required to register with ZIM to ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards.”
The ZIM Act, originally focused on traditional marketers, has been expanded to include digital marketing, social marketing, and marketing communications.
