ZRA TO RECOVER OVER K10.7 MILLION FROM UCZ

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is set to recover more than K10.7 million from United Chemicals Zambia Limited following a court ruling on tax evasion.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala confirmed the development in a statement issued on 21st January 2026.

Nzala said the Economic and Financial Crimes Court in Ndola ordered the company to pay the amount after it pleaded guilty to eight counts of furnishing false returns and statements.

He explained that the offences occurred between 1st July 2022 and 31st March 2023, during which the company submitted false declarations and misrepresented exports of cooking oil to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nzala stated that the company falsely claimed zero-rated sales amounting to over K19.1 million, leading to a Value Added Tax loss of more than K10.7 million.

He added that the court also imposed a fine of K40,000 to be paid within 14 days, with a warrant of distress to be issued in default.

Nzala further noted that the company was ordered to compensate the State K400,000 for prosecution expenses, which has since been settled.

He urged all taxpayers to comply with tax laws to avoid enforcement actions such as prosecution and imprisonment.

Nzala also appealed to the public to report tax malpractices to help grow the revenue base and promote fair competition.

He reaffirmed ZRA’s commitment to curbing economic crimes that deprive the nation of critical revenue.
