Africa Access Water (AfAW) headquartered in Zambia working with it’s partner, Tevel of Israel, is spending over One Hundred Thousand US Dollars to build a dam in Mphande Hills Villages of Kafue District, as a Climate Mitigation Strategy.

AfAW Chief Executive Officer Rodney Katongo said the project, to benefit over 1000 families, is in line with Government efforts as enshrined in the Zambia Water Investment Programme.

Mr. Katongo said the non-profit Organisation selected Mphande Hills Villages because it is hosting an alternative livelihood project in the Area.

He said rain water harvesting is an important ingredient in stimulating economic growth.

The AfAW Chief Executive Officer said the dam is almost ready for water harvesting in the current rain season.

“AfAW with Tevel is undertaking the exercise to help in alleviating the suffering of citizens by providing Climate mitigation solutions such as water,” he said.

Mr. Katongo said it is anticipated that challenges of low rainfall might be prevalent in future of which rain harvesting becomes a critical component for AfAW and Tevel that promote water for productive use.

“The water from the dam will increase food production for Mphande Hills Communities and increase their income thereby improving their livelihoods,” he said.
