A 15 year-old girl of Luanshya is feared to have drowned and died after she went missing after an adventrous swim in Luanshya River.

Mary Chilufya Kana, a grade 10 pupil at Mpelembe Secondary School was among her friends when they went for a fun swim in Luanshya river.

She has not been seen and her body has not been found yet.

And Patriotic Front Presidential Candidate, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili who rushed to the scene called on Luanshya Copper Mines, the Luanshya Municipal Council and the Disaster Management and Mitigloopation Unit (DMMU) to coordinate and send divers to search for the missing girl.

Kambwili has appealed to young people to swim in designated spaces as they have trained supervisors who were available in the event of an accident.

He said the drop in availability of community social amenities was due to various economic factors which had also contributed to the risk by young people to swim in undesignated places.
