2.1 MILLION SIM CARDS DEREGISTERED SO FAR

The Zambia Information Communication and Technology Authority-ZICTA- has so far de-registered 2.1 Million Subscriber Identification Module –SIM- Cards that were not compliant with the registration requirement.

ZICTA Corporate Communications Manager Hanford Chaaba tells Phoenix News that following the roadmap for the deactivation of non-compliant SIM Cards; about 2.4 Million SIM Cards have been identified not to be in conformity with the law.

Mr. Chaaba has explained that about 2,200 SIM Cards have also been claimed by owners while 289 have been regularized.

He adds that the exercise of deregistering of SIM Cards that are not in conformity with the law will continue as the authority wants to ensure it has a clean data base.

Recently, ZICTA announced that it is targeting to deregister over half a million non-compliant SIM Cards across the country.
