Go Back to the Land Zambia,(GOBALZ),an organization that advocates to promote Rural Development, has welcomed the 30.6 Million Kwacha Constituency Development Fund increment in the 2024 national budget.

Organisation Executive Director, Cyprian Phiri, says the development will unlock rural potential and uplift the livelihoods of the people.

He said government will create an enabling environment through the K4.8 Billion CDF allocation in the 2024 national budget which translates into K30.6 Million for each
constituency.

“The increase in the CDF allocation from 28.3 Million to 30.6 Million,demonstrates the great importance the New Dawn Government attaches to Rural Development which should be appreciated by all well-meaning Zambians” Mr Phiri said.

He said the increase will further ensure more resources are directed to provide communities with local development which includes basic services such as access to clean and safe water, maternity wings and school desks among others.

He is however concerned in the manner women and youth grants are being abused by some cooperatives and clubs in some constituencies as
funds are being shared among members instead of investing the money as expected.

Mr Phiri has advised local authorities entrusted in the management of CDF, to continue engaging communities by building capacity through mindset change to realize that CDF is a game changer with the potential to unlock rural economic development.
