North Western Province Permanent Secretary,Col Grandson Washitoni Katambi, has welcomed the rollout of the Children’s Code Act, in Solwezi District, with a call to enhace outreach to all children, regardless of their physical location.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Director for Child Development, Ms.Bridget Moya is in Solwezi to promote sensitization on the recently enacted Children’s Code Act, which has codified laws meant to protect and promote children’s welfare across the country.
Speaking when she paid a courtesy call on him, Col Katambi expressed happiness that children’s issues will effectively be addressed now that a legal framework is in place.
He noted that the law should now present an opportunity for every child, wether in rural, urban and far-flung areas to be heard, while ensuring equality is promoted in the application of laws that protect children.
Col Katambi said citizens in far-flung areas need to have access to information on the new law so that they can uphold children’s rights in order to accord them a dignified life and protection from all forms of abuse.
And Ms. Moya acknowledged the need to ensure that sensitization is enhanced so that the welfare of children’s are promoted in a collaborative approach across the country.
