May 20,2024 – Kasama Police Traffic dealt with a Fatal Road Traffic Accident which occurred today Monday 20 May, 2024 around 05:00 hours at Misamfu area about Five Kilometers North of Kasama along Kasama – Mbala road.
Involved was a Motor vehicle Toyota Vitz registration number APB 4089 which was being driven from South to North direction by Gift Bwalya aged 21 of Mulenga Hills Urban Kasama District who sustained fatal head injuries, fractured legs and died on the spot. He had three Passengers on board namely:
1. Charles Mwape aged 51 who sustained a deep cut on the left shoulder, fatal head injuries and died on the spot
2. Joan Bwalya of unknown age but between 40 and 45 years who sustained fractured left leg, fatal head injuries and died on the spot
3. M/Blessings Mapalo aged 24 who sustained Fatal head injuries and died on the spot.
All the persons in the Toyota Vitz are from Namulundu compound Kasama District.
Also involved was a Tata truck registration number BCB 2083ZM belonging to Zambia Forest and Forestry Industries Corporation(ZAFFICO) in Kasama which was driven from North to South by Robert Sinyangwe aged 37 of Central town Kasama District who fled the scene immediately after the accident.
He had Six passengers on board of which Amos Mulenga aged 23 of Henry Kapata Village Kasama District sustained suspected internal injuries and he is unconscious while five (5) had minor injuries and were treated namely:
1. Justin Sinkala aged 31 of Henry Kapata Village Kasama District
2. Victor Mulenga aged 21 of Village Mulambe Mungwi District
3. Timothy Nkalamu aged 56 of Mulambe village Mungwi District
4. Mathews Pambi aged 30 of Henry Kapata Kasama District
5. Morgan Mutale aged 30 of Mulambe village Mungwi District.
The accident happened when the driver of the Tata truck failed to keep to his near side and in the process, hit into a Toyota Vitz which was coming from the opposite direction and careered off the road to the western side.
Due to the impact, the Toyota Vitz was extensively damaged while the Tata truck incurred depressed front right fender, damaged bulbar and broken right head lamp.
The deceased’s bodies have been deposited in Kasama General Hospital Mortuary awaiting Postmortem examination. The Casualty is admitted to the same Hospital.
Investigations into the accident are currently underway.
