A COUPLE has appeared in the Ndola Magistrates Court for allegedly fraudulently obtaining K410,000 from a businessman under the pretext of selling a two-hectare farm.

Patrick Kachayi, 65, and his wife Favour Chilufya, 50, both farmers from Chichele in Ndola, are facing one count of obtaining money by false pretences.

It is alleged that on June 1 this year, Kachayi and Chilufya obtained K410,000 from Henry Chirwa, 39, a businessman of Kansenshi, Ndola, claiming that they were selling a two-hectare farm, which they did not own.

Court heard that the accused couple shifted from their farm at night, loaded their household goods into his vehicle, and stored them at their daughter’s house before departing for Tanzania the following day following the payment of the money.

Webster Chileshe, the driver who assisted in their transportation told the court that:

“While on the way, the accused told me they were moving to Tanzania because they believed their blessings from God were there.”

Chileshe said the accused paid him K11,000 instead of the agreed K12,000 for the transport service.

“The next day, I received a [phone] call from the police, who were looking for the accused. I assisted the police in locating and apprehending them in Tanzania,” he said.
