A 32-YEAR-OLD woman of Sinazongwe, Southern Province, has died from electrocution after accidentally leaning on an electric fence mounted on the chicken run.

The deceased, Moley Mweemba, had gone to buy chickens with three others on Christmas Day when she met her fate.

Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka said the incident happened between 04:30 hours and 05:00 hours in Maamba’s Siansowa area.

“Ms Mweemba together with three others whose particulars are yet to be established went to buy chickens from Caphas Musoni, 41, of Siansowa.

“In the process of buying the chickens, Ms Mweemba accidentally leaned on an electrical wire fence, which is mounted on the chicken run, and she got electrocuted as it seemed that power was not switched off at the time,” Mr Daka said.

Ms Mweemba was immediately picked up and rushed to Siansowa Health Post but died on the way and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The matter was reported at Maamba Police Station and the body was later taken to Maamba General Hospital mortuary.

“Police at Maamba station rushed to the scene together with expert electricians from Zesco for scene reconstruction and inspection.

“This was to establish whether there was criminal negligence on the part of the chicken run owner which has resulted in the death of Ms Mweemba,” he said.
