A 35-year-old man of Kawama Compound in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt, has been allegedly murdered by his wife, following a night of drinking.
According to Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner, Pathias Siandenge, the incident occurred on Monday, May 26, after the couple had been drinking together and got into an argument when they returned home.
Mr. Siandenge, identified the deceased as Michael Mwamba, and the suspect as Fenia Bisheti, aged 42 of unknown house number of Kawama compound.
The Police Commissioner revealed that the argument started when the wife was slapped on the face by her husband. In a fit of rage, she broke a bottle she was holding and stabbed him multiple times in the head, causing severe cuts.
After the attack, the wife claimed to have been drunk and did not bother to check on her husband. It wasn’t until around 05:00 hours on May 27 that she woke up and found him unconscious, having bled throughout the night.
In a desperate attempt to cover up the crime, she sought help from their neighbour, a taxi driver, to take her husband to the clinic, telling him that he had been attacked by unknown criminals on his way back home.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in the Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
