Ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) media director Mark Simuwe says the opposition should think twice about the Copperbelt province, stating that the ruling party has transformed the mining sector in the region.

And Simuwe says President Hakainde Hichilema’s – run administration mean serious business as opposed to ‘lip service’ or propaganda which he claims is what the opposition is offering the people.

Speaking at a media briefing earlier today, Simuwe says the revamping of several mines that had shut down during the Patriotic Front reign is evidence enough of the ruling party ‘s commitment to changing Zambia’s mining industry.

Simuwe says the revamping of the mines has, and is creating thousands of jobs for the local people in the province.

The outspoken media director cited mines such as Mimbula mine, Mopani, Lubambe, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Mopani where he claims hundreds of locals are directly benefiting as either suppliers or employees in the various mines.

Meanwhile, Simuwe explains that the revamping of the mining sector in the Copperbelt under the UPND is contributing to the increase in tax base, adding that the resources being reaped are benefiting Zambians through increased social cash transfer as well as free education.

Simuwe has since challenged the opposition to up their game in terms of political discourse, adding that Zambians want issue – based politics as opposed to what is currently pertaining ahead of next year’s general elections.
