UPND Alliance Council of Presidents Meets President Hakainde Hichilema, Reaffirms Commitment to National Development and Unity

The UPND Alliance Council of Presidents has held a high-level meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema at Community House in Lusaka to discuss key national priorities, development projects, and strategies to strengthen unity both within the Alliance and across the country.

According to a media statement issued by the UPND Alliance Council of Presidents, the meeting, which took place on Wednesday, 25th March 2026, focused on Zambia’s ongoing and planned development agenda. Special attention was given to major infrastructure and industrial projects aimed at transforming the economy and improving livelihoods.

The Council acknowledged progress on several flagship projects, including:

The revitalisation of Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe, which is expected to boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and reduce import dependency.
Construction and commissioning of bridges, schools, airports, and water ports to improve connectivity and service delivery.
Expansion of the mining sector, including the planned phosphate mine in Sinda District, projected to create over 10,000 jobs.
Increased investment in geological surveys to unlock Zambia’s mineral potential.
Promotion of local manufacturing, including the production of vaccines and life-saving medicines, supporting Zambia’s transition from a retail-based to a manufacturing-driven economy.

The Council also emphasized the importance of social development initiatives such as:

Strengthening and formalizing the Free Education Policy through legislation to ensure sustainability.
Enhancing citizen participation in national development.
Promoting inclusive governance anchored on unity, coexistence, and shared national values.

During the meeting, new members were inducted into the UPND Alliance Council of Presidents, reaffirming their commitment to integrity, collaboration, and service to the Zambian people. The Alliance resolved to place national interest above partisan and personal considerations, highlighting its dedication to supporting government efforts in driving development and national cohesion.

The Council expressed gratitude to President Hichilema for his visionary leadership and the government for its continued commitment to advancing Zambia’s development agenda.
