Zambian photographer Chellah Tukuta has offered advice to outspoken socialite Simon Mwewa Lane, who has publicly expressed interest in becoming Lusaka’s future mayor.
In a post addressed directly to Mwewa, Chellah urged him to shift focus from social media arguments and motivational “English lectures” to serious leadership strategy and selling his vision to the people of Lusaka.
“Ba future mayor Mr Mwewa, it is time you put that phone away and stop the English lectures. It is now time to sell yourself as a candidate and what you will do for the people of Lusaka,” Chellah wrote.
He further advised Mwewa that leadership requires maturity, respect and emotional control, especially when dealing with criticism.
Chellah cautioned him against blocking critics on social media, stating that a leader must be able to handle insults and public pressure without becoming emotional.
“A leader is criticized and even insulted. Please do not block your critics on your page. Do not be emotional, allow people to vent and criticise you,” he said.
Chellah also encouraged Simon Mwewa Lane to prioritise unity and collaboration,
particularly with street vendors, who remain a key part of Lusaka’s informal economy.
He urged him to engage vendors peacefully and involve them in efforts aimed at keeping the city clean.
“It is time to make peace with the vendors and collaborate with them and make them understand why we need a clean city. Let them participate in keeping Lusaka clean,” Chellah added.
The post has since sparked debate online, with many agreeing that aspiring leaders must demonstrate tolerance, discipline and a clear plan for development rather than relying on social media battles.
