Citizens First (CF) aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Nkundalila Constituency in Serenje, Bangwe Naviley, has written to the Bank of Zambia requesting an investigation into why Wonderful Trading Group in Serenje only accepts cash payments.

In a letter dated 15 May 2026 addressed to the Governor of the Bank of Zambia, Bangwe said he personally engaged the retailer and has now formally lodged a complaint against Wonderful Trading, located at Plot 615, Serenje.

He noted that the business currently operates on a cash‑only basis and does not provide Point of Sale (POS) facilities for mobile money, card swiping, or other electronic payment methods.

Bangwe argued that this practice is highly inconvenient for consumers and undermines Zambia’s financial inclusion agenda, which encourages the adoption of electronic payment systems to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in commerce.

He further stated that, as a journalist, he has observed that such restrictive payment policies disadvantage customers who rely on mobile money or card transactions, and that they run contrary to the spirit of the National Payment Systems Act and the Bank of Zambia’s directives on electronic payments.

Bangwe requested that the Bank of Zambia investigate the matter and take appropriate action to ensure that Wonderful Trading complies with national payment system guidelines by providing POS facilities and supporting mobile money and card transactions.

The letter was copied to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA), Consumer Unity & Trust Society (CUTS), and the Serenje Town Council.
