Mtendere came alive yesterday as hundreds of residents poured into the streets, bringing business to a standstill from the market area to Mwaiseni complex.
The reason? Resolute Party Munali Parliamentary Candidate Chrispin Chiinda was in his home, and the people were hungry to hear his message.
What started as a campaign meeting turned into a march of conviction. From Mahatma Gandhi, through the busy market, past the taxi rank, and into Kazimai Market, residents joined in.
Marketeers closed their stands, stepped out, and lined the streets just to catch a glimpse and shake hands with “their son of Munali”.
By the time the crowd reached Mwaiseni, the message was clear: Mtendere is done with politics of fear. They want a leader who listens, who serves, who walks the same streets they walk.
Addressing the people, Chrispin Chiinda told the crowd:
“Ba Mtendere, I am not just your candidate. I am your son. I grew up on these streets. I know your struggles because I lived them. I know your markets because I bought from them. When I go to Parliament, I will not go alone — I will carry your voice, your problems, and your hopes.”
Chiinda assured residents that under the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance, alongside President Brian Mundubile and running mate Makebi Zulu, Munali will get a Member of Parliament who is accountable.
“The support I saw from Kazimai to Mwaiseni tells me Mtendere is ready. Ready for change. Ready for a leader who serves. I am confident that when 13th August comes, Mtendere will speak with one voice,” he said.
For many residents, yesterday was more than a rally. It was a declaration.
As one elderly woman at Kazimai Market said: “We have waited long for a leader like this. He is our child. He will not forget us.”
After the meeting, Chiinda and team, among them, aspiring councilor Watson Mtonga continued walking the streets interacting with the residents.
Chiinda’s support continues to grow in the constituency.
A named independent candidate yesterday even announced that he had withdrawn from the race and decided to support a person he a week ago said was unpopular and could not win in Munali, leaving Chiinda as a front runner for the seat ahead of the August 13th general elections.
