Democracy Advocate Febian Mutale has cautioned that political rallies do not win elections, arguing that if crowd size determined outcomes, the UPND would not have won the 2021 general elections.

“Large crowds do not necessarily mean a win,” Mutale said. “Much as perception is created, elections are decided by more than rallies.”

Speaking during an appearance on Crown TV, Mutale warned the ruling UPND against complacency despite currently being in government. “The UPND should not be relaxed,” he said.

His comments come as presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and running mate Makebi Zulu continue to pull large crowds at campaign rallies ahead of the August 13th general elections.

Meanwhile, cautioned UPND supporters saying; “Stop lying to President Hakainde Hichilema. Go on the ground and explain his policies so that those that are still doubting his leadership can be won back.”

He added that explaining President Hichilema’s plans for Zambia cannot only be done by outspoken UPND media director Mark Simuwe and a few others, but that responsibility is for all party members.
