Former Vice President and former Acting President of Zambia, Dr Guy Lindsay Scott, has died at the age of 82.
Government confirmed that Dr Scott passed away in Lusaka on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his Trotover Farm in Leopards Hill after an illness.
The announcement was made through a press statement issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, who described Dr Scott as one of Zambia’s distinguished national leaders whose contribution to public service and politics will be remembered for generations.
President Hichilema Declares State Funeral
In recognition of his service to the country, President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded the late Dr Scott a State Funeral.
Government said details of the funeral programme and burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
The State Funeral is being held in honour of Dr Scott’s distinguished political career and his contribution to Zambia’s democratic development.
Who Was Dr Guy Scott?
Dr Guy Scott served as Vice President of Zambia from 2011 to 2014 under the late President Michael Chilufya Sata, following the Patriotic Front’s victory in the 2011 general elections.
During his tenure as Vice President, Dr Scott became one of the most recognisable figures in the PF administration and was known for his outspoken personality and extensive knowledge of agriculture and public policy.
Zambia’s First Acting President After Michael Sata’s Death
Following the death of President Michael Sata on October 28, 2014, Dr Scott made history by becoming Zambia’s Acting President, serving from October 2014 until January 2015.
During that period, he oversaw the country’s transition towards the presidential by-election that eventually ushered in President Edgar Lungu.
