The four-year-old girl who was abducted last Thursday in Nakonde is still away from home for the sixth day running.

Gift Mweemba was abducted by an unknown man last week when she escorted her brother to charge their mother’s phone.

The older brother was tricked on the way by the man to go and buy sweets before disappearing with Gift and the stepmother’s phone.

The father, Bright Mweemba, has exclusively told Chete FM News that the last few times the family talked to her on phone, she’s cried of being mistreated by the abductor.

“Sometimes when we talk to her, we can hear her crying. She’s talked about being beaten and exposed to the cold. I’m going through a lot now, I can’t even eat because of my child,” Mr Mweemba has told Chete FM News.

He says the man initially demanded for K10,000 ransom before settling for K1,000 from K2,000.

The mode of payment has been problematic as the abductor keeps changing his mind.

Mr Mweemba adds that he’s now leaving everything in God’s hands.
“If this is how Gift’s life was destined to end, then we just have to thank God because he knows everything.”
“I’ve a lot of fears because life is Nakonde is very hard. She’s a little girl who could be hurt or even worse used for rituals.”
The 32-year-old driver says he holds no grudge against anyone who can reach the level of harming his child.
Similar incidents of child stealing have occurred in Nakonde in the last two years with the criminals sent to jail.

Meanwhile, police in Muchinga Province say they are working with the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority(ZCTA) to track down the man.
