Africa needs predictable pandemics’ financing – MASEBO

Africa Centres for Disease Control Governing Board Chairperson, SYLVIA MASEBO says Africa should put in place predictable and sustainable financing to address future pandemics.

Ms. MASEBO, who is also Zambia’s Health Minister, was speaking when she opened a high level virtual Ministerial Consultative Meeting for the International Governmental Negotiating Body.

The Minister said the African Continent must come together to prepare how to address future pandemics on the continent.

And Ms. MASEBO congratulated all African Ministers of Health for agreeing on a common African position towards robust pandemic prevention and preparedness last week.

She said the common African position came at a pivotal moment as World Health Organisation -WHO- member states agreed to resume negotiations aimed at finalising the World’s first pandemic agreement.

Ms. MASEBO said the pandemic agreement is a testament to the global commitment to better prepare and respond to future pandemics.
