As Zambia counts down to the 13th August 2026 elections, Dr. Brian Mushimba is pitching himself as the candidate with the technical skill, executive discipline, and government experience to move the country from crisis management to long-term solutions.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Mushimba argues that Zambia’s persistent challenges in power, water, education, and health cannot be solved with piecemeal fixes, but that the country needs a leader trained to diagnose root causes and design systems that work.
A professional engineer by training, Dr. Mushimba says his systems-based approach is what the country has been missing.
“Zambia needs a systems approach to end its systemic challenges once and for all. We have been applying band-aid solutions to deep structural problems. It is time to fix the foundations,” he said.
That foundation, comes from Dr. Mushimba’s career path. He began as an entry-level engineer on the international stage and rose to Chief Executive Officer in the energy sector, managing complex institutions with large budgets and teams.
He later served one full term as Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister, giving him first-hand knowledge of how government operates.
“A government is a complex ecosystem,” he indicated
Dr. Mushimba knows where to start, where delivery stalls, and how to overhaul systems so they deliver a Zambia that works for everyone.
With deep expertise in infrastructure development, particularly energy and utilities, Dr. Mushimba is positioning himself to lead rapid, coordinated national projects. He notes that reliable power, clean water, modern roads, and digital connectivity are the base for economic growth and a “first world Zambia in our lifetime”.
He is also drawing on experience from both the private and public sectors – a combination his camp calls rare. That mix helps him understand how to create wealth and how to deliver public services effectively.
His campaign is placing youth employment at the center of its vision. Dr. Mushimba is described as future-oriented, focused on industrialization, technology, and innovation.
He will certainly end youth unemployment that others have failed to achieve, pointing to skills training, tech hubs, and manufacturing as the key drivers.
With campaigns heating up, Dr. Mushimba’s message is simple: Zambia needs competence, not just promises. This election is a choice between managing problems and solving them through systems, accountability, and results.
