Citizens First (CF) parliamentary candidate for Nkundalila Constituency in Serenje, Bangwe Naviley Chisenga, has stressed the urgent need for the construction of a one-by-five classroom block in Katota area of Mweshe Ward to accommodate secondary school learners.
Speaking when he addressed voters in the area, Bangwe explained this is because Katota is geographically marginalised, with a poor road network that forces children to relocate to distant schools to access Grades 8 to 12.
He noted the challenge is worsened by parents who lack reliable sources of income and fail to sustain their children, leading many to drop out of school.
Bangwe highlighted that despite the presence of minerals, with truckloads leaving the area daily, there has been no corporate social responsibility compelling miners to build classrooms for local pupils.
He observed that the Constituency Development Fund remains only a story read in the media, with no visible impact in Katota, particularly in education.
Bangwe stated that once elected he will involve organisations under the Joining Forces Alliance on children and other progressive entities in the development sector to ensure the area receives first-hand attention.
He explained it is possible to convince the development sector if elected as a Member of Parliament, as that position carries greater influence.
Bangwe emphasised that he could persuade donors to take action in the area, given the urgent need for educational infrastructure.
The parliamentary aspirant urged the Forum for African Women Educationalists Zambia (FAWEZA), which promotes girls’ education and empowerment, to take interest alongside UNICEF.
He stressed that without intervention, the cycle of poverty and school dropouts will continue to affect families in Serenje.
Bangwe urged citizens to support his candidacy ahead of the 13th August 2026 election under President Harry Kalaba.
He promised to prioritise education and development in Nkundalila Constituency.
