Boarding School drop off turns deadly as three family members die in crash!
A routine act of dropping off a child at a boarding school turned tragic as three members of the same family lost their lives in a devastating accident, casting a pall over what should have been a day of learning and growing.
The three which included the father, daughter and nephew all of the same family were killed instantly in a crash while eight other passengers including the intended pupil for the school drop off at Tarcisia Floriana Convent Secondary were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday May 5, 2024 at around 15;10hrs along the Solwezi-Chingola road.
Zambia Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale has confirmed the incident to Nkani.
Mwale revealed that the accident that took lives and left others hospitalized was triggered by an attempt to overtake.
Mwale further revealed that 37 year old Felix Nkandu who was the driver of the Land Rover tragically met his fate due to head injuries that he sustained in the collision, as he attempted to overtake another vehicle while driving from the east to west direction at a high speed.
“Nkandu lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and ultimately crash”, Mwale said.
“Two other victims who succumbed to fatal head injuries on the spot included Mashilipa Musonda, a toddler barely out of infancy aged 1year 10months and Beauty Nkandu aged 5”.
“The eight passengers namely; Dewen Muleba aged 9, Grace Melashi aged between 25 and 35, Favor Nkandu aged 14, Braven Nkandu aged 16 among others who survived the devastating accident though left with serious injuries were rushed to the nearby hospital and are currently admitted at Solwezi General Hospital for treatment”, Mwale disclosed.
The already sombre mood of Tarcisia Floriana Convent Secondary was compounded by the news of the accident that claimed 3 lives of the same family on the spot .
The school manager expressed their deepest condolences for the loss of life further revealing that the intended pupil of the school drop off identified as Agatha Nkandu was among those hospitalized with serious injuries and currently receiving treatment.
