Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) Zambia has officially handed over a new Operations Guideline for Solid Waste Service Providers to the Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company.
BORDA Zambia Country Director, Engineer Angela Kapembwa, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the milestone.
She stated that the guideline is the result of a collaborative and consultative process with practitioners, regulators and service providers.
Eng. Kapembwa emphasised that the document is not merely a technical manual but a step towards strengthening governance systems within the solid waste sector.
She noted that the guideline provides a structured framework to support standardised operations and improve service delivery in communities across Lusaka.
Eng. Kapembwa stressed that the true success of the guideline lies not in the document itself but in its effective implementation.
She called on all actors in the waste chain, including waste generators, to embrace their role, reminding them that proper waste placement enables service providers to do their work.
Eng. Kapembwa described the handover not as the end of a process, but as the beginning of a new phase of coordinated action, with BORDA Zambia committed to supporting monitoring and learning engagements.
This came to light during a handover ceremony for the Operations Guideline for Solid Waste Service Providers held in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company Chief Executive Officer Imuwana Mwanamwalye received the document, expressing his appreciation for the partnership.
Mr Mwanamwalye noted that the guideline is a vital tool in building the capacity of service providers and the company itself.
He stated that the document sets out clear guidelines on how to achieve effective and efficient solid waste management.
Mr Mwanamwalye described the handover as timely, aligning with the company’s 2026 operating plan to enhance the capacity of private service providers.
He urged franchise contractors and community-based enterprises to not simply file the document but to use it, continuously make reference to it and read it so that they are able to draw maximum benefits out of it.
Mr Mwanamwalye expressed deep appreciation to BORDA Zambia, calling them a good partner committed to finding solutions for improving waste management services in communities.
