The Democratic Union (DU) has been received as an alternative party in Central province ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Under the leadership of Ackim Anthony Njobvu, the DU has been in Mkushi, Kapiri Mposhi and Kabwe, Central province for mobilization engagements with the locals.

The development has cheered the public in the region who have previously cried for an alternative political party away from the current ruling UPND and the former ruling party, the Patriotic Front (PF).

Meanwhile, president Njobvu has stated that the DU presents Zambians an opportunity for fresh leadership when the country goes to the polls next year.

The opposition leader who was mobbed in Kapiri Mposhi where he addressed traders stated that the DU is a party that was formed on the basis of offering credible checks and balances, with the aim of driving Zambia’s economic agenda from 2026 and beyond.

Meanwhile, Njobvu expressed happiness that Zambians have continued embracing the DU as a party of choice.

The opposition leader has since called on the youth, women as well as elders to rally behind the DU in 2026, adding that the party has come on the political scene with fresh ideologies that will change Zambia’s economic status.
