CHIEFTAINESS SINAZONGWE COMMENDS CEJ FOR EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH REVOLVING FUNDS

Chieftainess Sinazongwe of the Tonga-speaking people has expressed satisfaction with the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) for empowering women in her chiefdom with Revolving Funds.

The Traditional Leader said the funds aid income-generating activities such as agriculture, small businesses, and livestock rearing.

CEJā€™s dedication to environmental justice and community well-being was well highlighted during a courtesy call by CEJ Executive Director Maggie Mwape in Sinazongwe District.

Meanwhile, Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) Executive Director Maggie Mwape said CEJā€™s Mission is to advocate for environmental justice, sustainability, and community empowerment.

She said the organization is currently implementing the Resilient Initiatives for Sustainable Environment (RISE) Project in Sinazongwe and Serenje districts.

Ms Mwape said the projectā€™s goal is to bolster the environmental monitoring and evaluation, improve environmental impact assessments, and ensure promote enforcement & compliance to environmental regulations.

The CEJ Executive Director added that CEJ has since launched another three-year European Union-funded initiative, Strengthening the Respect for Environmental Rights (SR4ER), to be implemented in Sinazongwe, Kabwe, Serenje, Mufulira and Kitwe.

Ms Mwape reassured Chieftainess Sinazongwe of CEJā€™s long-term commitment to the district, noting the presence of an office in Sinazeze managed by District Coordinator Jeff Kayamba, who will oversee CEJā€™s operations and community engagement.

She said Chieftainess Sinazongwe is also slated to participate in the Environmental Protection Dialogue (EPD), an annual event where traditional leaders deliberate on environmental protection, land rights, ecosystem restoration, and related topics.

Ms Mwape said the EPD seeks to align environmental law with social justice to nurture sustainable communities.
