A 36-year-old man has died after being stabbed during a fight with his estranged wife at mthilamsembe compound in Chipata District.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba says the incident occurred on Friday, 20th june, 2026 and was reported to Chipata Central Police station yesterday by the victim’s friend Johannes Tembo, who reported that his friend Kangwa Mumbi was stabbed to death by his ex-wife, Agnes Zulu, a Malawian national, following a marital dispute.
Mr. Mweemba says police officers rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying face down in a pool of blood, about 6 meters from the suspect’s house.
In a statement, Mr. Mweemba says upon inspection, the body had a deep cut on the upper left side of the chest with blood all over and that a knife believed to have been used in the act has since been recovered.
He says brief facts of the matter are that the now deceased, who was separated from his ex-wife, left his house in Kapata compound to visit her at Mthilamsembe compound but while there, the two had a misunderstanding that escalated into a fight.
Mr. Mweemba has explained that the now deceased allegedly stabbed his ex-wife with a knife on the spine but that before collapsing, she picked up the same knife and stabbed him in the chest, causing excessive bleeding.
He says the woman who is currently under police guard was rushed to hospital where she was admitted, and later referred to Chipata Central Hospital for further medical attention.
