Namalongo says the matter came to light on October 31, 2026, after a concerned community member reported to Shampande Police Post that the woman had been seen assaulting her child.

He says police officers rushed to the scene and found the boy with multiple injuries, after which the child confirmed that he had been assaulted by his own mother.

According to information obtained, the woman had misplaced some money in the house and, after searching for several hours without finding it, suspected her son of stealing it.

She reportedly informed her male neighbour, and the two questioned the boy, who denied taking the money.

The woman and her neighbour allegedly tied the boy’s hands with a rope before assaulting him with sticks, inflicting multiple injuries.

Namalongo adds that after the assault, the woman later remembered where she had kept the money and found it.

“The victim was issued with a Medical Report Form and taken to Choma General Hospital where his condition is reported to be stable. He has since been handed over to relatives.

“The woman is currently detained in police custody while a manhunt has been launched for her male neighbour who was not found at his residence,” he said.
