Zambia Women’s Hockey Team Head Coach Floyd Chomba says his team is ready for the highly anticipated Hockey 5s World Cup which kicks off in Oman on Wednesday January 24.

The Golden Girls will open their World Cup Group B account against South Africa on Wednesday at the Oman Hockey Stadium in Muscat at 06:50 Hours Zambian Time.

Their second game of the day will be against the 28th placed ranked Ukraine before they conclude the group stage against tough-as-teak Australia on 25 January.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s games, Coach Floyd Chomba expressed confidence in his squad as they take on some of the Worlds best teams.

“We had our last training session yesterday Monday and our focus is now entirely on the tournament that starts tomorrow with an early morning encounter against South Africa then later in the day against Ukraine but our target is to take each match as it comes,” he said.

Zambia is among the 16 countries that will compete in this inaugural competition for a maiden World Cup trophy in the new Hockey format.

Midfielder Ireen Muenga equally echoed the Coaches comments and urged the Sponsors and the fans to rally behind the team.

“We are ready for this tournament because we feel we have prepared so well, the first game is always trick but we will do our level best to get a positive result which will give us more confidence ahead of the second game against Ukraine.”
