POLICE anti-robbery flying squad popularly known as C5 have gun downed two Lusaka criminals believed to have been causing havoc within the city, causing residents to have sleepless nights.

This happened after the cops received a report of aggravated robbery through Matero Police station where the duo attacked a 48 year old man in Barastone Park, Matero and stole his vehicle, a purple Toyota Vitz while armed with weapons on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to that incident it was reported that the two men had gone to Ten Miles where they strated their escapades and stole K6,900 and a mobile phone from another identified man at gunpoint.

Working with intelligence information from an informant, the flying squad cops led to Garden Park area were they were told that two men matching the description of the duo that was behind the recorded crimes had been seen with the purple vehicle which had been stolen with a fake number plate mounted on it.

However before they could follow up the tip, information reached the C5 that two armed men were seen jumping into public transport, a Flash minibus which was heading towards SOS area along the Great North Road at 14:00 hours.
The Anti-Robbery Flying Squad took no time and begun a chase like a Manchester City defender who could not allow Real Madrid to concede a goal in last week’s UEFA Champions League.

The cops caught up with the mini bus, making it immobile and searched every nuke and cranny of the vehicle as if they were searching for a needle in the sand, at the expense of passengers who were searched and forced to lie down on road while officers fired warning shots which could have easily made any grown man wet his pants.

After searching the bus clean, the cops didn’t find the criminals and followed up on their earlier lead where they found the stolen vehicle parked in one of the yards without a gate in Garden Park.

However, when officers moved in to secure the place, the two assailants went into fight or flight mode, channelling their adrenaline to make an escape hence, they challenged the officers.

This prompted the officers to retaliate, as they shooting them down, giving them an access ticket to ‘Fill up Lusaka graves’ to meet their ancestors.

Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the death of the duo stating they pronounced dead upon arrival at the University Teaching Hospitals where they were rushed to.

“Police recovered the Toyota Vitz which had its original number plate removed. Upon searching the car, a Pistol, a knife and a pair of folded number plates were found,” Mwale said.

He said deceaseds’ were deposited in the stated hospital mortuary, awaiting for formal identification and post-mortem while the 48 year old complainant positively Identified his recovered motor vehicle.
