Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu has condemned the attack on Power FM journalist Alfonso Kasongo by alleged UPND cadres in Linda compound, calling it a “savage act” that must not be tolerated.

Kasongo attacked whilst on duty in Linda.

In a press statement issued Sunday, 20 April 2026, Njobvu said violence against members of the media is an attack on the constitutional rights of all Zambians.

“Journalism is a pillar of democracy, and violence against members of the media is an attack on the constitutional rights of all Zambians,” he said.

The DU leader has since called on the Zambia Police Service to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter and ensure those responsible are arrested and brought to justice without delay.

“We further urge all citizens to desist from acts of violence against innocent people. Political differences must never be settled through brutality or intimidation,” he said.

Njobvu added added that it does not support violence against any individual, whether journalists or ordinary citizens. “The conduct of our members reflects the values of their leadership,” Njobvu said.

Meanwhile, UPND through its media director Mark Simuwe has reportedly distanced the ruling party from the matter, calling on ZP to arrest the suspects.
