Lusaka, Zambia – May 2026 – Medical doctor and public health commentator Dr Aaron Mujajati has cautioned men against ignoring early signs of erectile dysfunction (ED), warning that the condition rarely appears suddenly and is often linked to underlying health issues such as diabetes and heart disease.
In a message shared on social media, Dr Mujajati explained that erectile dysfunction usually develops gradually, but many men fail to take action early because they assume it is caused by stress, fatigue, alcohol consumption, or relationship issues.
ED Often Starts Slowly Without Men Noticing
According to Dr Mujajati, erectile dysfunction does not typically happen overnight. Instead, it begins with subtle signs such as reduced morning erections, weaker erections, and a gradual drop in libido.
He noted that many men ignore these warning signs and continue making excuses rather than seeking medical attention.
“One day without a morning erection, another with a weaker erection, and later a noticeable drop in libido. Many men dismiss these changes,” he stated.
Men Resorting to Unverified Remedies Can Make ED Worse
Dr Mujajati also raised concern that some men seek advice from friends or resort to unsafe traditional or unconventional remedies, which may worsen the condition and delay proper treatment.
He said this habit not only affects sexual wellbeing but can also cause men to miss the opportunity to diagnose more serious health conditions early.
Erectile Dysfunction Can Signal Heart Disease, Diabetes or Hormonal Imbalance
Dr Mujajati stressed that erectile dysfunction is often not just a sexual issue but a medical warning sign.
He explained that ED can be caused by serious health conditions such as:
Cardiovascular disease
Diabetes
Hormonal imbalance
Poor blood circulation
“The truth is, ED is often a signal of underlying health issues. Ignoring it means missing the chance to address these conditions early,” he warned.
How Men Can Maintain Good Erectile Health
Dr Mujajati advised men to take proactive steps to improve erectile health and overall wellbeing. He outlined key measures that can help prevent or manage erectile dysfunction.
1. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
He encouraged men to prioritize exercise, good nutrition, quality sleep, and reduced alcohol consumption to support hormone balance and blood circulation.
2. Manage Stress and Anxiety
Dr Mujajati said stress and anxiety are major contributors to erectile dysfunction and can interfere with sexual performance. He recommended relaxation techniques, counselling, and mindfulness.
3. Avoid Smoking
He explained that tobacco damages blood vessels, reducing blood flow which is essential for achieving and maintaining an erection.
4. Seek Medical Help Early
He urged men not to wait until ED becomes severe before visiting a doctor, as medical professionals can identify the cause and recommend safe treatment options.
5. Improve Communication in Relationships
Dr Mujajati added that open communication with a partner reduces pressure and improves intimacy, which can also help improve sexual performance.
“ED Is a Window Into Overall Health” – Dr Mujajati
In conclusion, Dr Mujajati reminded men that erectile dysfunction should be taken seriously because it may indicate bigger health issues that require immediate attention.
“ED is not just about sexual performance, it’s a window into overall health. Men who act early protect not only their sexual wellbeing but also their long-term vitality,” he said.
His message has since sparked discussion online, with many praising the doctor for addressing an issue that is often ignored or treated as taboo in society.
