AS BISHOP MAKASA WARNS: “DON’T VOTE FOR SONGS, COMEDY OR YOU RISK ANOTHER 5 YEARS OF VIOLENCE”
EASTERN PROVINCE – Traditional leaders in Eastern Province have thrown their weight behind Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu for the Presidency, describing him as a “son of the soil” ahead of the August 13, 2026 general elections.
The endorsement was made on Tuesday during Njobvu’s community interactions in Katete, Petuake, Sinda and Chipata.
Village headmen and women in various chiefdoms across the province indicated support for Njobvu, citing his connection to the region.
The traditional leaders also expressed disappointment with the UPND administration, alleging neglect in most villages during its tenure.
Addressing electorates alongside Njobvu, Clergyman Bishop Abraham Makasa warned Zambians against voting based on entertainment.
“It is unfortunate that instead of telling Zambians their manifestos and solutions to issues affecting the nation, some candidates have subjected the electorates to comedy shows and dancing to music,”Bishop Makasa said.
He warned that Zambia risks being stuck if voters elect leaders who have presented “nothing but campaign songs and comedy.”
Bishop Makasa described Njobvu as “a leader who has proved to be different by focusing on issues affecting the people.”
The clergyman said the church is pleased with Njobvu’s commitment to upholding the country’s status as a Christian Nation following his commitment to the peace process.
Bishop Makasa urged voters to support Njobvu on August 13th, warning of consequences if they vote otherwise.
President Njobvu, who is in the province on his campaign tour ahead of next week’s crucial elections, assured electorates of a “new Zambia through massive transformation across different sectors.”
He reiterated his pledge to establish a Chiefdom Transformation Fund to drive development directly in rural communities.
With 8 days to go before polling day, the Democratic Union has intensified its campaign in Eastern Province, a key battleground in the 2026 elections.
