FORMER president Edgar Lungu has threatened government with a “lengthy Court process” if his fundamental rights of mobility are not reinstated.

On Saturday September 16, Lungu was prevented from travelling to South Korea.

But according to a notice of intended action served on the Attorney General today, Lungu indicated that he was prevented by immigration officers from taking a trip to South Korea to attend the 9th anniversary of the HWPL World Peace summit scheduled for September 18, 2023 to September 20, 2023.

The former president said minister of information and media Chushi Kasanda and the ministry’s director Thabo Kawana issued statement indicating that he needed clearance from government before traveling.

Lungu said he instituted judicial review proceedings in the High Court protesting the illegal decision of immigration officers but the Court set September 25 for a status conference after the summit, rendering the action academic.

He said he was later forced to discontinue the court case.

“Take notice that following the withdrawal of the judicial review action, our client intends to take out a petition against yourselves(State) for breach of of the constitution of Zambia, should you not make appropriate amends within the next 48 hours undertaking to uphold Lungu’s freedom of movement and association as guaranteed by the constitution,” read the notice drafted by Makebi Zulu’s law firm.

“Kindly oblige to avoid the rigmarole of court process.”
