A furious crowd in Mazabuka’s Stage Two Compound apprehended an ex-convict on Thursday evening for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl.
Byta FM Zambia reports that residents discovered the suspect, Victor Mabebo, popularly known as “Mu soldier,” hiding in a house where he had been since last week.
Witnesses reported that the mob brutally beat Mabebo, stoning him and using sticks before handing him over to Mazabuka Police Station.
Women and youths lined the streets, chanting anti-child defilement slogans.
Mazabuka Gender-Based Violence Activist Gloria Sialubala commended the community for their action, urging residents to maintain the district as a no-go area for defilement.
Earlier, Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka stated that the suspect had lured the victim to his house on the promise of K5 and subsequently defiled her.
