A man from Itala Compound in Mkushi District who was arrested for assaulting his juvenile son following a drinking spree has been convicted and sentenced to five-year imprisonment.

The crime committed by Boyd Nyirongo, aged 37, on January 28, 2024, gained widespread attention after it was shared on various media platforms.

He is said to have béaten his son for no apparent reason after earlier tasking him to clean his bicycle, with the victim sustaining chest pains and headache.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, says the accused was promptly arrested and on January 31, 2024 and appeared before the Mkushi Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Hamoonga states that following a thorough legal process, Nyirongo was on February 1, 2024, sentenced to 5 years in prison, stating that the verdict reinforces the commitment by Zambia Police in ensuring the well-being of every member of the community.
