Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba has stepped aside as Chairperson of the National Team Technical Committee to focus on his broader responsibilities as head of the football governing body.
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya announced the decision in a statement issued on October 2, 2026, saying Mweemba will now devote greater attention to the wider responsibilities of his office and other strategic priorities.
Mweemba steps aside after spending a year chairing the National Team Technical Committee, during which FAZ said he helped guide the committee through its formative period and lay a strong foundation for its work.
Chakatazya said a new Chairperson of the National Team Technical Committee will be appointed and announced in due course.
Meanwhile, FAZ has announced the appointment of former Zambia U-23 Men’s National Team coach Peter Kaumba to the National Team Technical Committee.
Kaumba brings extensive football experience to the committee, having guided the Zambia U-23 Men’s National Team to the semi-finals of the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
The former Zambia international was also named Best Winger at the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, further adding to his credentials as he joins the technical committee.

Kaumba will work alongside former FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya, Kenneth “Bubble” Malitoli, Patrick Phiri and Danny Kabwe.
Chakatazya welcomed Kaumba’s appointment, describing him as a football legend and experienced coach whose knowledge would add value to the committee’s work.
The FAZ General Secretary also reiterated that Mweemba’s decision to step aside from the technical committee was aimed at allowing him to give greater attention to his responsibilities as FAZ President.
In another change announced by FAZ, Hans Mujala Mweemba, the FAZ Luapula Province Chairperson, has been appointed Chairperson of the FAZ Referees’ Committee.
Former FIFA referee and COSAFA/CAF member physical instructor Bernard Chabala has also been appointed as a member of the Referees’ Committee.
The appointments follow the departure of former Referees’ Committee Chairperson Gladys Lengwe, who stepped down from the position last year.
Chakatazya said the Executive Committee subsequently appointed Hans Mujala Mweemba as Lengwe’s successor, with Chabala joining the committee as a member.
The latest appointments form part of changes within FAZ’s technical and refereeing structures as the association continues to strengthen its football administration and national team support systems.
